Evaluation Summary –  « Jeunes en Vigie » – From Social Audit to Health Rights for All Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Action

19 May 2026

In Burkina Faso and Senegal, adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) face major barriers in accessing sexual and reproductive health services, in a context marked by low levels of knowledge about sexuality, the weight of religious morality, and insufficiently trained health workers.

The Jeunes en Vigie project, implemented between 2020 and 2024, aimed to strengthen AGYW’s access to quality health services adapted to their needs and respectful of their rights, by combining youth empowerment, capacity building of health providers, changes in social norms and policies, and the production of new tools and methodologies to improve healthcare delivery. The final evaluation found overall positive effectiveness, with objectives largely achieved: the project brought about significant changes in terms of AGYW empowerment, strengthened the capacities of health providers, and contributed to changes in social norms and policies. However, operational delays limited the reach of advocacy efforts at the national level.
