Evaluation overview – Optimizing latent tuberculosis treatment initiation in Cambodia among people living with HIV (OPTICAM)
Cambodia has achieved remarkable results in its response to tuberculosis (TB), especially among people living with HIV (PLHIV). In 2022, the TB treatment success rate was 95.5%, with 90% of TB patients tested for HIV. However, the coverage of Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) among newly enrolled PLHIV was only 32%, well below the targets set for 2022 at the United Nations High-Level Meeting.
To improve this coverage, the operational research project OPTICAM aims to identify barriers to the initiation of treatment, raise awareness among healthcare workers about recent guidelines, and evaluate the impact of an intervention combining a shorter therapeutic regimen (3HP). This project is led by the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, in partnership with the National Center for HIV/AIDS , the National Anti-Tuberculosis Center, and the Clinton Health Access Initiative.
