Strenghthening secondary prevention of cervical cancer
Aligned with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public-health problem, the SUCCESS project (Scale Up Cervical Cancer Elimination with Secondary Prevention Strategy) has, since 2019, positioned itself as a champion in achieving the targets set by the WHO.
Implemented in partnership with Jhpiego and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), it was rolled out in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guatemala and the Philippines during its first phase. Thanks to funding from UNITAID, it has had a significant impact across twenty countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, demonstrating the feasibility, relevance, acceptability and/or cost-effectiveness of introducing HPV screening and thermal ablation treatment.
This capitalisation report aims not only to share the lessons learned from this first phase but also to improve the quality of future interventions by providing tools, algorithms and best practices to all stakeholders engaged in eliminating cervical cancer.
