To address healthcare system gaps and enhance HIV response strategies, the IMPACT project engages Mauritanian community-based organizations. Integrating key population communities is essential to achieving the 95-95-95 targets by 2025.
Context
In Mauritania, the HIV epidemic disproportionately impacts key populations, with over half of people living with HIV unaware of their serological status. Stigma remains a significant barrier, hindering access to testing and care services for these groups. To curb the epidemic and meet global targets, the IMPACT project is dedicated to improving access to care and prevention services for key populations in Mauritania. On a larger scale, IMPACT aims to support the achievement of the global 2025 targets: 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of those aware of their status are on treatment, and 95% of those on treatment have an undetectable viral load.
Description
The IMPACT project focuses on training and capacity building for community-based organizations to strengthen their role in combating the epidemic and improving access to prevention and care services for key populations in Mauritania. The project emphasizes integrating a community-based approach within health centers, developing innovative prevention and care services, and implementing an effective communication strategy to achieve goals in testing, treatment, and reducing HIV transmission.
Impact
The IMPACT project seeks to transform access to healthcare services for key populations in Mauritania by significantly reducing new HIV infections and enhancing the quality of life for people living with HIV. By empowering community-based organizations and integrating their efforts into the national healthcare system, IMPACT will help achieve the 95-95-95 targets, representing a significant step toward eliminating HIV as a public health threat in Mauritania.
