The Initiative and Stop TB Partnership, a new partnership to end tuberculosis
With 1.6 million deaths and 10.6 million people diagnosed in 2021, an increase of 4.5% compared to 2020, tuberculosis is the second deadliest infectious disease in the world (after Covid-19).
In light of this data, L’Initiative is partnering with Stop TB Partnership to increase our fight against this devastating disease by strengthening advocacy, community mobilization, gender equality, while promoting human rights.
Stop TB Partnership has significant expertise and experience in the fight against TB. Through the Civil Society Support Facility, Stop TB Partnership provides grants to communities, civil society and local organisations to support technically sound and innovative interventions.
This partnership between L’Initiative and Stop TB Partnership is based on concrete actions:
Co-financing of the Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS)
The Initiative is contributing €870,000 to support projects focused on tuberculosis and led by civil society organizations from French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries. This
component of the partnership will fund initiatives related to advocacy, partnership, community mobilization, the promotion and protection of human rights, and gender equality.
« With $13.5 million in funding available through support from USAID and L’Initiative implemented by Expertise France, CFCS 12 will be the largest investment ever made in civil society and community organizations affected by TB.. »
Provision of technical assistance
The Initiative will also support, through its support to Stop TB Partnership, the provision of technical assistance services to countries and organizations that request them. These services will focus on issues linking tuberculosis to community health, gender and human rights issues, thus complementing the support already deployed by the Initiative.
Adapting tools
Existing tools will be examined to support our actions more effectively, particularly for professionals and French-speaking communities.
This partnership enables an ever-increasing fight against tuberculosis, to work towards ending this disease, for global health.
This new partnership reflects the shared vision of a world without tuberculosis and strengthens France’s commitment to global health.
« France, in line with its global health strategy, has decided to support the Challenge Facility for Civil Society to help build capacity in geographical areas that are poorly covered but where needs are urgent, particularly in West and Central African countries. »
