Cross-cutting Evaluation – Tuberculosis

Assessments 23 September 2025

In 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 10.8 million people contracted tuberculosis (TB), representing a 4.6% increase compared to 2020. The WHO’s “End TB” strategy aims by 2035 to achieve a 95% reduction in mortality and a 90% reduction in tuberculosis incidence compared to 2015. To contribute to this goal, L’Initiative supported five projects designed to improve the effectiveness of TB screening, treatment, and prevention. These projects were implemented between 2020 and 2023 in Vietnam, Cambodia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Madagascar, as well as Laos.

Three of the projects focused on operational research, comparing approaches or biological tests related to TB prevention through tuberculosis preventive treatment (TPT). The other two aimed to pilot TB screening activities among key populations prior to their potential scale-up. This cross-cutting evaluation is a synthesis of their results, allowing for analysis and lessons learned that can support efforts to eliminate the pandemic.
