Evaluation overview – Strengthening the inclusion of disadvantaged urban communities in Madagascar in quality screening and care (TB and HIV/AIDS)
In Madagascar, access to care for tuberculosis and HIV remains limited due to an underfunded health system and a shortage of healthcare professionals. Social factors such as poverty, stigma, and overcrowding worsen the spread of these diseases and the development of treatment resistance, particularly among vulnerable populations.
To better integrate at-risk urban communities into programs combating tuberculosis, HIV, and malaria, the RAITRA project relies on community networks – including community outreach workers – to strengthen prevention efforts and improve tuberculosis treatment adherence. The project is led by the NGO ATIA in partnership with three national NGOs: Koloaina, Vahatra, and Mampita.
