Evaluation Summary – Project to Strengthen Universal Access to Quality Healthcare for HIV-AIDS Patients in the Provinces of Maputo and Sofala in Mozambique
Mozambique is one of the countries most heavily affected by the HIV pandemic. In this context, Douleurs Sans Frontières implemented a project aimed at strengthening access to integrated care for people living with HIV in the provinces of Maputo and Sofala between April 2021 and October 2023. The project’s goal was to ensure access to and quality of healthcare, diversify the range of care provided and integrate this offer into the public health system.
The evaluation highlights the relevance of the project and the gaps it helped fill in pain management, psychosocial support and home-based care for patients in need. It had a clear impact on the quality of life of a significant number of people, mainly through its integrated home-care activities. However, it also points to the limited scope of advocacy, which did not make it possible to secure the integration of these activities into national strategies.
